Fractal Refine Mesh Review

Conclusion

When we first looked at the Fractal Refine, especially in our Light Mesh review model form, it was easy to assume it was hideously overpriced. After all, Fractal aren’t exactly known for their chairs, and the price tag clearly isn’t because of swathes of leather or memory foam.

It quickly becomes apparent, however, that the price tag is almost wholly justified. Just building it you get a sense of the quality of every component. There is a thickness to the fabric and a robustness to the polycarbonate frame that speaks of quality. Similarly the build process was smooth and speedy. The Refine Mesh is especially light, and you can easily build it on your own. All of the difficult bits are pre-built. You’re basically attaching the headrest to the back, the back to the seat, the seat to the gas lift, and the whole thing to the base. Couldn’t be simpler. The lack of wobble and wiggle shows the high tolerance of the parts. Again, a hallmark of quality.

Once it’s all built it takes a second to convince yourself that this thin mesh will support you. It does though. In a manner scarcely believable. It’s so comfortable. We know that Autumn is rapidly approaching, but we’re looking forwards to next summer. A lot of chairs offer coolness via promises of clever foam technology and heat wicking. The Fractal Refine Mesh keeps you cool by having very little between you and the actual air. It’s as close to sitting in a hammock whilst also being in an office chair that supports you utterly we can imagine. It’s near wizardry.

Getting comfortable for those long sessions isn’t just about the lack of stuff within the Refine. The headrest is built brilliantly and stays where you put it. None of these elastic pillow nonsense things. Old school. Add in the tilt mechanism, lumbar support, and seat depth adjustment and you have a chair that guarantees you’ll be able to find an ergonomic seating position in moments. With a 125KG weight limit and a broad seat fitting too even the chonkier amongst you won’t find any issues.

The Fractal Refine Mesh is a fantastic entry in the premium seating market. It combines some very clever design thinking with excellent quality of materials and wins our OC3D Performance Award.
