OC3D & Be Quiet @ LITS 2011
Armari XCP
Whilst the 3XS Swordfish is obviously the star in “bigness” terms, back down to low earth orbit we spot an equally intriguing system which you might recognise if you follow the Dream PC awards. If you don’t then you’ll be amazed at the concept, and if you do you’ll still be amazed at the hardware.
A completely fanless, mineral cooled, fully submerged system. Not only is this definite proof that the concept we first saw about three years ago works so well that it can take vastly superior hardware than the prototype did, but there is still something truly eye-popping about seeing the coolant run out like a waterfall.
The hardware inside is probably more impressive. Hex-Core Sandy Bridge-E processor running on the Intel X79 chipset. Twin GTX580s. No fans. It speaks volumes when a brand new Intel processor and a brand new chipset almost play second fiddle to the Armari XCP. Although that’s probably because we’ll get to review the former, never the latter.
Whilst we are taking a small meander down ‘Famous custom computers we’ve known and desired’ road. One stealthy, one extrovert, both gorgeous.
