For our results we have taken the average of three runs to ensure the best representation of the potential performance. Because a cache drive works by seeing what you’re loading and storing it to be accessed next time the initial cold boot of Windows 10 is as slow as the system is without the Optane Memory installed. For our Optane results we’ve averaged the next three boots, so that it is actually working. As you can see there is a clear and obvious benefit on the Neutron XTI, whilst the IronWolf goes from being as dog slow as you would expect from a mechanical drive, up to as quick as some seriously expensive drives.
