HTC reduces Vive VR headset pricing by $200

The Oculus Rift has been available with reduced pricing for a while now, leaving the HTC Vive in a rather difficult position. Yes,  it is the superior headset in terms of “Room Scale” capabilities and now offers a design that is 15% more lightweight than its launch day counterpart, but since the Oculus “Summer of Rift” promotion started, its price made it difficult to recommend.

Now HTC has responded with an official price reduction, which decreases the HTC Vive’s price from $799 to $599, which is a $200 discount. New customers will also get copies of Google’s Tilt Brush, EverestVR, Richie’s Plank Experience and a free trial for Viveport, where consumers gain get access to five VR titles a month to experience for free.

This pricing change makes the HTC Vive much more competitive with Oculus’ new Rift Headsets, which may be cheaper but offers less “Room Scale” tracking ability/range. One other advantage that HTC Vive users have is the ReVive hack/mod, which allows Vive users to play/experience Oculus Exclusive content.
