Windows Mixed Reality Headsets will release with the Fall Creators Update
At IFA, Microsoft has revealed that their upcoming Windows 10 Mixed Reality headsets will be releasing on October 17th alongside Windows 10’s Fall Creators Update.
Headsets will be released from a wide range of companies like Acer, HP, Lenovo, Dell and ASUS, all of which offer the same features with inside-out tracking systems, dual 90Hz 2.89-inch displays that offer 1440×1440 resolutions and a 95-degree field of view (FOV). This gives Microsoft’s Windows 10 VR headsets a lower FOV than both the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift, but higher display resolutions.
Microsoft has already confirmed that their Windows 10 VR headsets will support SteamVR, which should allow them to play VR games on Valve’s gaming platform. At this time it is unknown how much existing games will need to be modified to fully support these new VR headsets.
These headsets will release with prices that start at $299, which is for the headset alone, with more expensive models shipping with their own VR motion control solutions.
