No, ASUS are NOT Injecting Ads into Games Through GPU Tweak

These reports originated from a Reddit user called PurpleSquash640, with the post quickly garnering the attention of several media outlets. These reports are false, as the reality of the situation is that this “ad” is part of a new GPU Tweak feature, unfortunately for ASUS, their placeholder image happened to be an advert for their RTX 20 series of graphics cards. 

In a message to HardOCP, ASUS set the record straight, confirming that GPU Tweak II is implementing a feature that will allow gamers to inject a logo into their games, a handy feature for streamers who want to display their brand logo or the emblem of their clan. ASUS’ placeholder image for this feature is a promotional image for their products, but it cannot be considered as an ad given its replaceability and the fact that it is not displayed by default by GPU Tweak II. The text shown below the image can also be edited. 
   
ASUS plans to continue to develop their streamer-focused OSD settings moving forward, though none of these plans involves bringing unavoidable ads into the software suite. A quick instal of ASUS GPU Tweak and a gander at the applications options would have revealed the reality of this situation, but I guess this level of fact checking is too much to expect from certain websites.
