Nvidia announce their Volta-based Tesla V100 GPU

Nvidia has announced their Volta-based Tesla V100 GPU, which uses HBM2 and has 5,120 CUDA cores and offers a total of 15 TFLOPS of FP32 performance.

This GPU will be based on TSMC’s new 12nm manufacturing process and is the largest GPU die that is manufacturable at this time, at least according to Nvidia.

The Tesla V100 is not a gaming GPU and will be an NVLink based GPU, so don’t expect this GPU to hit store shelves anytime soon. Even so, a GPU that offers a 50% performance improvement over their existing Pascal P100 is a very impressive performance change for Nvidia, though this is achieved by greatly increasing the die size and complexity of the GPU.
