Tobii integrates their eye-tracking tech into the HTC Vive

Tobii has integrated their eye-tracking tech into the HTC Vive, enabling eye-tracking on a VR headset for developers and researchers to utilise.
The main selling point of this eye-tracking enabled headset is for researchers, particularly those who work on human behavioural and psychological studies. With VR new eye-tracking release studies can be conducted without ever putting the user at risk as well as enabling certain studies in VR that would be otherwise too costly and/or difficult.

In VR, researchers can completely control the environment that the user inhabits, which is something that cannot be said about plenty of real-world tests.

Researchers can now be in full control of their environments with the HTC Vive Headset integrated with Tobii eye tracking technology, and conduct studies that are more affordable while avoiding any risk for study participants.

Tobii Pro VR Integration combines the power of eye tracking and VR, opening up new research possibilities within psychology, consumer behaviour, training and human performance.

Using Tobii’s Pro SDK users can also analyse data live, with data feeds being compatible with Matlab, Python and .Net when using Unity.

This eye-tracking upgrade can be retrofitted to HTC’s VR headset, which means that HTC has nothing to do with this VR eye-tracking upgrade.

At this time Tobii has not discussed the integration of eye-tracking technology into the HTC Vive for gaming purposes, though at this time it is unknown what additional benefits eye-tracking technology can deliver to VR games apart from what we have already seen in today’s Tobii-enabled games.
