Motherboard shipments are expected to drop by 10% this year
A report from Digitimes stated that motherboard shipments are expected to decrease by 10% in 2018, pointing towards another decline in the motherboard market. This fall comes despite growth in the gaming sector of the motherboard market, which has proven highly profitable for companies like ASUS.
2017 was a good year for motherboard manufacturers, with the release of Intel’s 200-series, Z370-series and X299 motherboards and AMD’s AM4 and TR4 lineups. 2017 is expected to be a weaker year, with Intel releasing new 300-series motherboards, while AMD is likely to focus on AM4 compatible Ryzen Refresh CPUs.
Today most major motherboard manufacturers are focusing on the “gaming” segment of the DIY market, with ASUS finding tremendous success with their ROG lineup, holding around 70% market with strong sales in the high-end.
