Ryzen Pi – Axiomtek’s CAPA13R brings quad-core Ryzen to compact form factors

What happens when you push the power of AMD’s quad-core Zen architecture into an ultra-compact form factor? You get the Axiomtek CAPA13R, a 146mm x 104mm single-board computer that’s designed for use in embedded systems. While running standard versions of Windows 10 should be possible on this board, given its use of standard x86 hardware, general PC isn’t what the CAPA13R is designed for.

With versions supporting AMD’s Ryzen V1807B or Ryzen V1605B embedded APUs, the CAPA13R is no slouch when it comes to PC performance. Both units offer users quad-core processing with SMT enabled while the Ryzen V1807B offers Vega 11 graphics and the Ryzen V1605B offers Vega 8 graphics.

These embedded APUs can support up to 16GB of DRAM using a DDR4 SODIMM (single-channel) and an M.2 Key-B card for SATA/NVMe Storage and an M.2 Key-E card for wireless connectivity. The board also has a single SATA port for additional system storage.

Connectivity-wise, this board offers users dual Gb Ethernet ports, dual HDMI outputs, a single DisplayPort output and an LVDS interface. This unit also features two USB 2.0 ports and twin USB 3.1 Gen 2 connections. Axiomtek’s CAPA13R can be powered using a 12V DC power supply.

Unlike compact embedded systems like the Raspberry Pi, Axiomtek’s CAPA13R isn’t designed for hobbyists and home users. More details about this unit are available on Axiomtek’s website, where the CAPA13R is listed as “available” for an undisclosed price.
