Amazon UK confirms that its £599 PS5 listing was a mistake

Last night, Sony’s PlayStation 5 console was listed on Amazon UK, showcasing a price tag of £599.99 with 1TB and 2TB models. In addition to this, unnamed games from Rockstar, Bethesda, and Konami were listed with £69.99 retail prices.

When these listings went live, the internet went crazy about the PS5’s leaked pricing, as this price tag is around 2x higher than today’s PS4 Pro pricing. Now, Amazon has confirmed that the listing “was an error” to IGN.

Before major product reveals, Amazon staff typically creates fake listings with fake prices. These listings can then act as templates for these future products when they are revealed. In this case, Amazon UK accidentally published these fake listings, releasing false information onto the internet.

Sony is due to reveal more information about its PlayStation 5 console later today at its “The Future of Gaming” event.
