Intel Xe-HPG graphics recommended for Amnesia: Rebirth

In 2021, Intel plans to enter the discrete GPU market with their Xe graphics architecture in the form of Xe-HPG products. With Xe-HPG, Intel plans to compete with RDNA 2 from AMD and Nvidia’s Ampere architecture, bringing a third contender to the graphics card market. 

Tomorrow (October 20th), Fractional Games plans to release Amnesia: Rebirth, a successor to Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs. Amnesia: Rebirth is now the first game to list Intel’s Xe-HPG graphics within the game’s recommended system requirements, long before gamers have access to Intel’s discrete graphics architecture. 

At this time, it is unknown why Fractional Games has listed Intel’s discrete graphics architecture within Amnesia: Reborn’s system requirements, be it for publicity or as an error. With Nvidia’s GTX 680 and AMD’s RX 580 also being recommended, it seems clear that Fractional Games’ Intel-HPG recommendation is too high-end for their game, as Intel would be foolish to release discrete graphics cards which are only competitive with AMD’s mid-range 2017 offerings.

Intel’s Xe-HPG graphics cards are due to arrive in 2021 with GDDR6 memory and support for hardware-accelerated ray tracing. At this time it is unknown how Intel’s Xe-HPG graphics cards will perform in modern games, though we hope that it will be enough to compete within the high-end GPU market. More competition will always be a good thing.
