Zen 4 will be more impressive than Zen 3 – Leaker Claims
We already know that AMD’s Zen 4 architecture will move the company to a 5nm node, and AMD’s Rick Bergman has confirmed that AMD’s next-generation Zen 4 architecture will feature “a similar long list” of improvements as Zen 3.
Zen 4 is due to feature a major node shift and a large architectural shift. Both of these factors are big deals for CPU makers, and having both on a single product is sure to deliver tremendous performance improvements.
Zen 4 will offer a bigger performance leap than Zen 3
AMD’s Rick Bergman confirmed that the company is looking at “everything from the caches, to the branch prediction, [to] the number of gates in the execution pipeline” with Zen 4, delivering improvements to all major aspects of their Zen cores. This is good news for AMD, as these changes should deliver performance improvements across more workloads.
On Twitter, a leaker called mustmann has claimed that Zen 4 offers “a bigger jump than Zen 3 was over Zen 2″. Admittedly, this is an easy claim to make, given AMD’s plans to deliver architectural tweaks and a process node shrink with Zen 4. In this regard, AMD’s performance leap with Zen 4 should be similar to AMD’s leap from Zen to Zen 2, as it also featured both major architectural advancements and a major node shink.
Prior rumours have claimed that AMD’s Zen 4 Genoa processors will deliver a 29% performance increase over Milan without any changes to core count or clock speed, making Zen 4 a powerhouse CPU design from AMD. If Zen 4 also delivers clock speed increases, AMD’s onto a winner with Zen 4.

Regarding Zen 5, Mustmann has claimed that AMD’s next-next-generation processor will be “a pure slaughterhouse”, though at this time, we have no information that can back up these claims.
With Zen 4, AMD has the potential to deliver some incredible processors to the market. That said, AMD will need to work hard to ensure that their processors are produced in large enough quantities to facilitate the company’s continued growth. Let’s hope that AMD’s foundry partners have what it takes to keep up with AMD’s demand for more silicon.
Right now, Zen 4 has no firm launch date, though a 2022 release is expected. As an architecture, AMD’s Zen 4 design should be fascinating, offering a myriad of architectural improvements that deliver widespread performance gains and a node shift that promises greater power efficiency and, potentially, higher clock speeds.
