AMD Ryzen 9 9900X tops Geekbench’s single-threaded charts in leaked benchmark

AMD Ryzen 9 9900X showcases Zen 5’s single-threaded performance in leaked Geekbench result

AMD’s upcoming 12-core Ryzen 9 9900X CPU appears to deliver top-tier levels of single-threaded performance in Geekbench. With a single-threaded score of 3401, this CPU delivers performance levels that are much stronger than Intel’s i9-14900K. In fact, this new 12-core beats their 16-core Ryzen 9 7950X and Ryzen 9 7950X3D in both single-threaded and multi-threaded performance. Those are some strong results for AMD’s new Zen 5 architecture.

When compared to AMD’s Ryzen 9 7950X, their new 9900X is around 16% faster with its single-threaded performance score. This result perfectly aligns with AMD’s claimed 16% average IPC gains for their Zen 5 CPU architecture.

If this result is accurate, AMD will have the best performing x86 CPUs on Geekbench when it comes to single-threaded performance. Intel will have an opportunity to surpass AMD later this year with Arrow Lake, which will feature new E-core and P-core designs.

AMD are due to release their Ryzen 9000 series of processors later this month. These CPUs will be supported on existing 600-series AM5 motherboards, and upcoming AMD 800-series AM5 motherboards. AMD has not confirmed the pricing of their Ryzen 9000 series CPUs, though they are reportedly launching at lower pricing than their Ryzen 7000 series counterparts did at launch.
