Intel ARC A750 16GB Engineering Sample spotted – 512-bit memory bus?

Intel ARC Engineering sample leaks with 16GB of memory and two 8-pin PCIe power connectors

A new engineering sample for Intel’s ARC A750 graphics card has been spotted, unveiling an unreleased ARC Alchemist GPU model that Intel considered releasing. This Intel GPU sample is a 16GB ARC A750 GPU from Gunnir, which has come into the possession of @komenezumi1006.

This unreleased Intel ARC GPU appears to be fully functional. The GPU utilises two 8-pin PCIe cables for power and features a label that indicates the GPU has 16GB of GDDR6 memory across a 512-bit memory bus. Standard Intel ARC A750 GPUs use an 8+6-pin PCIe power configuration and feature 8GB of GDDR6 memory across a 256-bit memory bus.

Does this 16GB Intel ARC GPU feature a 512-bit memory bus?

The owner of this GPU has claimed that this graphics card is listed as having a 256-bit memory bus on GPU-Z. Currently, it is unknown why this GPU has a 512-bit memory listing. Our guess is that this GPU was mislabeled, with someone assuming that a 2x increase in memory capacity requires a doubling in memory bus size.

Based on images of this GPU, it isn’t a dual ARC A750 GPU, a configuration that would give the GPU two GPU cores and two 256-bit memory buses (512-bit total). As you can see above, this GPU has only one ARC A750 GPU core. If this GPU did have a 512-bit memory bus, it would require a new GPU core design. That’s why we believe this label simply has incorrect specifications.

Note that this GPU appears to be fully functional. Windows Task Manager lists the GPU as a 16GB graphics card. Furthermore, it appears to work with new Intel ARC GPU drivers.

The only 16GB ARC A-series GPU to luanch is Intel’s ARC A770. This GPU was available in 8GB and 16GB forms. It looks like Intel may have planned to also release a 16GB ARC B750 GPU. If that happened, this would have made Intel’s lower-end ARC A750 GPU a lot more appealing. However, it would have lessened the appeal of Intel’s newer ARC Battlemage B570. After all, that GPU only launched with 12GB of memory.
