Borderlands 4 Switch 2 version delayed at the last minute

Borderlands 4’s Switch 2 version has been delayed indefinitely

Borderlands 4 was due to launch on Nintendo’s Switch 2 console on October 3rd, quickly following the game’s release on other platforms. Now, Gearbox has confirmed that the game has been delayed, with the company refusing to issue a new release date. All digital pre-orders for the game on the Nintendo Switch 2 store have been cancelled.

Gearbox has stated that their game’s upcoming Switch 2 version “needs additional development and polish time.” This delay is highly unusual, as delays of this nature often happen months ahead of launch, not less than two weeks. This has led to speculation that Borderlands 4’s Switch 2 version suffers from similar performance issues to the game’s console version, or worse.

Borderlands 4 has performance issues on PC and consoles. If you’ve played the game or seen our PC performance review, you will know how demanding the game is. On consoles, the game is known for having performance issues. Over time, game performance degrades, forcing users to restart the game to achieve smoother framerates.

It seems likely that Borderlands 4’s upcoming Switch 2 version requires additional optimisation. If that is the case, the game’s upcoming Switch 2 changes could have an impact on the game’s existing PC and console versions. After all, all versions of the game could do with some optimisation.

Sadly, no new release date is available for Borderlands 4 on Switch 2.
