ASRock posts about “FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) 4.1”
Did ASRock just reveal a new version of FSR?
ASRock has released a new post on Twitter/X, discussing “FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) 4.1”. As of now, AMD has not officially unveiled a new version of FSR 4, suggesting that either ASRock has made a mistake or has prematurely revealed FSR 4.1.
AMD has recently launched FSR “Redstone” with the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, which launches with FSR “Ray Regeneration” (you can see our testing for this feature here). AMD has also been long rumoured to be working on an RDNA 3-compatible version of its FSR 4 upscaler. With this in mind, a new version of AMD’s AI upscaling solution is far from unexpected.
(ASRock’s (now deleted) post about FSR 4.1)
It isn’t uncommon for AMD to release new versions of FSR. FSR 2 had versions 2.1, 2.2, and 2.3. Furthermore, FSR 3 also had 3.1 and multiple 3.1.x versions. AMD is likely to have an improved version of its FSR 4 technology in the works. When it is released, it will likely be called FSR 4.1. That said, if AMD can deliver significant enough improvements in image quality or performance, calling their next version FSR 5 is a possibility.
So does FSR 4.1 exist? Maybe. If AMD reveals FSR 4.1 soon, it is likely that ASRock posted about it early. If not, then their mention of FidelityFX Super Resolution 4.1 is a typo, or a simple mistake.
