Thermaltake Toughpower PT 1000W Platinum PSU Review

Meet the Thermaltake Toughpower PT 1000W

Meet the Thermaltake Touchpower PT series

Thermaltake has sent us several of their new power supplies for testing, and first on our list is the Touchpower PT series. This series promises users Platinum-grade efficiency at solid pricing, with its 1200W model priced at an aggressive £169.99 in the UK. Today, we will be testing this PSU’s 1000W model.

Measuring 150mm (W) x 86mm (H) x 140mm (D), this PSU sits on the smaller end of the ATX PSU spectrum. This is great news for hardware compatibility, as all ATX PC cases will accommodate a PSU of this size. This PSU has a strong single +12V rail and is rated to handle harsh 40°C operating temperatures. With its 10-year warranty, Thermaltake believes that this PSU can stand the test of time. So let’s get testing to see if this PSU lives up to its ambitions.

Noise levels

This platinum-rated PSU also features an “A+” noise rating from Cybenetics. During testing, this PSU averaged 16.02 dBA, which is practically silent. Good luck getting a room quiet enough to hear their PSU over ambient noise levels. We certainly couldn’t hear this PSU during our testing. That said, our noise-level testing is not comprehensive, as we cannot reliably make our office quiet enough to properly test hardware at this level. That said, we can confirm that this PSU didn’t make any noticeable noise during our testing.

The Toughpower PT 1000W is a no-frills power supply. There is no button for a “semi-passive” mode or any other strange features. There is no USB header for PSU data analytics or any other gimmicks. This PSU is designed to get the job done, and do it efficiently.

Cables

All of the cables included with this power supply use black etched wires. The etching gives these cables the appearance of braided cables while increasing wear resistance. Note that all cables visible inside your system through the side panel window of your case include a cable comb. This makes it easy for PC builders to give their systems tidy-looking cables. That’s a nice touch.

Note that the 12V-2×6 power cable that comes with this PSU has grey power pins. This makes it easy to spot if your connector is not fully seated, which is a useful feature.

Pricing

Today, we are reviewing the 1000W model of the Thermaltake Toughpower PT power supply, which is available from Scan Computers UK for £149.99 at the time of writing. This PSU is available in 850W, 1000W, and 1200W forms. Below are the UK prices for the entire Toughpower PT range.

Included Cables

The Toughpower PT 1000W includes a wide range of cables. Included is a 20/24-pin motherboard cable, two 4+4-pin CPU power cables, an 8-pin CPU, one 12V-2×6 power cable, five 6+2-pin power connectors, six SATA connectors, and four molex connectors. That’s more than enough cables for almost any modern system. Exact cables and configurations are below.
