Thermaltake Toughpower PT 1000W Platinum PSU Review

Conclusion

Solid specifications at a solid price

The Thermaltake Toughpower PT 1000W is a solid PSU. It’s quiet and highly efficient. At £149.99, it is also well-priced. However, it would be wrong of me to ignore this PSU’s 1200W model, which costs just £169.99 in the UK. That’s £20 more for 200 watts of extra headroom. Not bad. That said, why pay more if you don’t think you will use the extra power?

Honestly, this PSU gives us very little to complain about. This PSU’s etched modular cables are similar to what we have seen with many, much more expensive PSUs. It is also very reasonably priced, given its 80+/Cybenetics Platinum-rated status. While it lacks features like a zero-dB fan mode and zero-db toggle button, this PSU is more than quiet enough without them. Also, let’s face it, does anyone actually use the zero-dB fan button on “premium” PSUs? For most, this is a feature that is looked at, shrugged at, and ignored.

Solid pricing, strong performance

At a time when hardware prices are rising, it is refreshing to see Thermaltake bring something reasonably priced to the table. The Toughpower PT series is ATX 3.1 compliant and PCIe 5.1 ready. It meets the latest PSU standards, and its efficiency results have impressed us. Features such as its coloured 12V-2×6 power cable pins are also a nice touch, as are the PSU’s etched cables. This PSU feels more expensive than it is, which is always a good sign.

The Thermaltake Toughpower PT 1000W offers little to complain about and much to praise. Given its solid pricing, it deserves an OC3D Value for Money Award. That said, if you’re tempted by this PSU’s 1200W model, it costs just £20 more. Very good pricing from Thermaltake, at least at the time of writing.
