Thermal Grizzly sells delidded AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D CPUs with a warranty

Thermal Grizzly is now selling delidded versions of AMD’s most powerful gaming processor

Thermal Grizzly has officially released delidded versions of AMD’s new Ryzen 7 9850X3D gaming CPU, offering users pre-delidded CPUs that have been thoroughly tested and backed by a 2-year warranty.

These processors ship with their IHS (Integrated Heat Spreader) removed, allowing users to attach direct-die cooling solutions to help them run at lower temperatures under load. Removing AMD’s IHS voids the warranty on AMD’s processor. What Thermal Grizzly has done is delid AMD’s CPU, test it, and ship it with their own warranty. This makes buying a CPU from Thermal Grizzly a safer option than delidding your CPU yourself.

This CPU is aimed at PC builders who desire lower CPU thermals and want a highly tuned/customised system. Thermal Grizzly also offers direct-die CPU water blocks and highly performant thermal compounds to deliver the best thermal results.

Note that while Thermal Grizzly ships their CPUs with AMD’s original IHS, these are not to be used with their delidded AMD processors. Their included IHS is for display purposes. Due to height differences, AMD’s original IHS cannot be used with a delidded processor. Using this heatspreader with their delidded CPU will void Thermal Grizzly’s warranty.

Pricing and Value

Essentially, Thermal Grizzly is taking on the risks of the delidding process. This gives consumers a way to benefit from CPU delidding without any of its dangers. While Thermal Grizzly’s $876.33 (US)/€749.00 asking price for a Ryzen 7 9850X3D seems high, it’s what allows Thermal Grizzly to offer a 2-year warranty.

Note that CPU delidding requires dedicated tools and knowledge to do safely. Thanks to Thermal Grizzly, PC builders can now purchase delidded CPUs without risk. Right now, Thermal Grizzly also offers buyers delidded Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPUs and Ryzen 9 9950X3D CPUs.
