AMD 5800X3D Box Spotted – AMD’s best value 2026 CPU could be from 2022!

AMD’s best value 2026 CPU launch could be four years old

AMD’s Ryzen 7 5800X3D CPU launched in April 2022, and it looks like it is about to return as a new “AMD AM4 10 Year Anniversary Edition” CPU. HXL has unveiled an image of the rumoured CPU’s box on Twitter/X, suggesting that the 5800X3D is returning as a retail/boxed product in 2026.

Given the relative affordability of AM4 motherboards and DDR4 memory, AMD’s Ryzen 5000 X3D gaming CPUs have become highly sought after. These CPUs allow PC builders to avoid high DDR5 memory prices, making new PC builds and PC upgrades much more affordable. With AMD’s X3D V-Cache technology, AMD’s Ryzen 7 5800X3D remains an excellent gaming CPU today. This is despite the fact that it has since been succeeded by newer Zen 4 and Zen 5-based models.

What was old is now new again

AMD’s Ryzen 7 5800X3D was discontinued in 2024. Now, this classic Zen 3 CPU is reportedly returning to store shelves. This CPU will retain the specifications of its original version. This will be a straight-up re-release with no enhancements or other changes. AMD is simply re-releasing its fastest AM4 gaming CPU, giving PC builders a strong DDR4-based gaming option.

This CPU features eight Zen 3 CPU cores, 96MB of L3 cache, a TDP of 105W, and a boost clock speed of 4.5 GHz. If you want something faster for gaming, you will need to order an AM5-based X3D CPU.

AMD’s best-value gaming CPU will be a 4-year-old CPU

If you told me a year ago that AMD’s best value gaming CPU for 2026 would be the 5800X3D, I would have laughed at you. Why would AMD revive such an old CPU? Why would AMD encourage people to use AM4? With DRAM pricing skyrocketing at the end of 2025, it’s easy to see why the 5800X3D is the CPU we need right now.

Currently, the planned re-release date and pricing of AMD’s new Anniversary Edition CPU are unknown. If I were to guess, I’d expect this CPU to cost around £250. Today, the Ryzen 7 5800X typically costs around £200-210. Since that is the case, I’d expect the 5800X3D to cost about £50 more. Note that renewed interest in AMD’s AM4 socket has driven AM4 CPU prices higher over recent months.
