Modders rejoice! Valve releases official Steam Controller CAD files

Valve releases official Steam Controller and Puck CAD files for modders and accessories makers

With the release of official CAD files for its Steam Controller and Puck, Valve has made it much easier for modders and accessories makers to create mods, stands, and custom add-ons for Valve’s new gamepad.

Valve’s package contains STL and STP files for both the puck and controller. Additionally, reference documentation for both parts is also available. These documents detail critical controller features and areas that accessory makers should avoid covering. This includes status LED locations and antenna locations.

Steam Controller and Puck CAD files now available!

Greetings! We have exciting news to share for those of you who want to hack, mod, or design accessories for the Steam Controller and Puck.

Today we’re making the CAD files for the external shell (surface topology) of Steam Controller and Puck available for download under a Creative Commons license. This includes an STP model of each, an STL model of each, and an engineering drawing with critical features/keep outs for each.

You can find the files here. We can’t wait to see what you all create!

These CAD files open the door to a wave of accessories and mods for Valve’s gamepad. Custom controller casings can be created, as can custom stands, docks, grips, and more. Accessory makers can also mould covers and shells for the gamepad and other interesting add-ons.

These CAD files will also be incredibly useful to 3D printer owners. 3D printer owners can now 3D print a controller shell and see how the gamepad feels in their hands before purchasing one. If they do purchase a controller, they can then use their 3D printer to create accessories, stands, and more with ease.
