Framework teases upgraded Desktop system with 192GB of memory
Framework teases its new Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 495 desktop with up to 192GB of LPDDR5X memory
Framework has confirmed that it has an upgraded version of its Framework Desktop PC in the works. With this model, Framework isn’t just offering memory capacities higher than its existing 128GB model; it’s also offering users an upgraded CPU, GPU, and NPU. Beyond that, the new system also ships with faster memory.
For the most part, this new Framework Desktop should be identical to its predecessor. Framework is teasing the system with an image that looks identical to its existing model. The only thing that appears to have changed is the CPU and memory inside. That said, the system may have received cooling upgrades and other small hardware revisions.
Faster CPU, GPU, NPU, and memory
With AMD’s new Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 495 CPU, Framework’s refreshed desktop will feature a minor increase in maximum CPU and GPU clock speeds. This shifts the system’s maximum CPU clock speed to 5.2 GHz and GPU clock speed to 3.0 GHz. Both of these clock speeds are 100 MHz higher than AMD’s Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 395 CPU. Additionally, AMD’s new CPU will have a 55 TOPS NPU, which is 10% faster than the 50 TOPS NPU in AMD’s Ryzen AI PRO 395 CPU.
The new Framework Desktop should feature LPDDR5x-8533 memory. This memory is 6.6% faster than the LPDDR5X-8000 memory in their existing desktop system. With the 192GB version of this system being ideal for AI workloads, this extra bandwidth will help boost overall system performance. After all, AI workloads are often bandwidth-limited. With more memory, Framework’s new desktop should also support more complex AI models and applications. With access to 50% more memory (128GB to 192GB), Framework’s new flagship desktop will be much more capable than its predecessor. While this can be considered a product refresh, its upgrades are notable, especially for its intended users.
