Metro 2039 targets 60 FPS with ray tracing on most platforms

Metro 2039 is coming to PC and consoles on February 4th

4A Games has just released a new console gameplay trailer for Metro 2039, showcasing the game on PlayStation 5 Pro. With this trailer, the studio confirmed that Metro 2039 will come to PC and consoles on February 4th 2027, and that the game will target 60 FPS in “Performance Mode” with ray tracing on most consoles.

At launch, Metro 2039 will support a 60 FPS Performance Mode on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, and Xbox Series X with ray tracing. This means Xbox Series S is the only platform that lacks a 60 FPS performance mode with ray tracing. Will the console support 60 FPS without ray tracing? Can it run the game at 30 FPS with ray tracing? 4A Games plans to unveil exact technology details and game modes in the months between now and launch.

The good news is that most modern gaming platforms will be able to play Metro 2039 at 60 FPS with ray tracing. That’s a good sign for PC gamers, as strong console performance typically signals strong PC performance. If most consoles can achieve 60 FPS gameplay with ray tracing, the same should be true for most modern gaming PCs.

We’re thrilled to finally announce that METRO 2039 is set to launch on all platforms on February 4th 2027!*

In addition, we can confirm that a 60 FPS Performance Mode with ray tracing support will be available at launch for the Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro consoles. We’ll be sharing much more about the technology, specs and different modes powering all editions of METRO 2039 in the months between now and release. In the meantime, we’ve just released the very first console gameplay footage of METRO 2039. Featured as part of Sony’s State of Play showcase, all footage in the trailer below was captured on the PlayStation 5 Pro at 60 FPS in Performance Mode.

Although METRO 2039 is first and foremost a story-rich FPS, we wanted our first console footage to focus on raw gameplay, environmental detail, kinetic combat, and the technological advances that have been made since 2019’s METRO Exodus.

By combining the very latest hardware developments with our proprietary 4A Engine, METRO 2039 is the first game in the series to be built from the ground-up for ray tracing. Add in nearly two decades of experience crafting METRO games, and we’ve been able to bring our bleak but beautiful world to life like never before. We still have so much more to show – including delving deeper into The Stranger, his journey into the dark heart of Moscow, and his true mission.

– 4A Games

If you watch the trailer above, you will see that Metro 2039 is stunning. 4A Games’ technology has clearly advanced since the release of Metro Exodus, which was itself a technological showcase. On PC, Metro 2039 will be available on Steam and the Epic Games Store. On Xbox, Metro 2039 is a “Play Anywhere” title. That means that the Xbox game will unlock a PC version of the game on the Xbox PC app. The opposite is also true.
