Valve officially launches its Steam Frame VR headset for £889

Valve has opened up Steam Frame registrations to eligible gamers

Valve has opened up a sign-up process for Steam Frame reservations, placing eligible applicants into a list that will be randomised to allocate initial pre-orders. On Thursday, September 17th, Valve will randomise the list and email the results within a day. Like other recent Steam hardware launches, Valve expects its early Steam Frame stock to sell out quickly.

Pricing and Specifications

Valve will release two models of the Steam Frame: a £889 256GB version and a £1089 1TB version. Both models feature a 4nm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SOC and 16GB of Unified LPDDR5X memory. Both models also include a MicroSD card slot and a rechargeable 21.6Wh battery. Aside from their storage specifications, both VR headset models share identical specifications.

Valve’s Steam Frame features two LCD panels, offering 2160×2160 resolution per eye. These panels can operate at 72 to 144 Hz, with Valve marking their 144Hz mode as “experimental”. The device also features Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4, plus 6-DOF tracking, inside-out cameras, and two Steam Frame Controllers. The device also comes with a free copy of Half-life: Alyx.

Note that Valve’s Steam Frame does not come with a power adapter. You can charge the device with any USB-C charger rated at 45W or higher. For £29, buyers can purchase a Steam Hardware 45W power supply unit with a 2.5m cable. Note that an ergonomic accessories kit is also available for the device for £59, which adds two controller hand straps, a headset top strap, and an extended light blocker.
