The Witcher 3 has hit a new concurrent player high on Steam, 11 years after launch

The Witcher 3 Remastered has arrived, and the free upgrade has brought PC gamers back in droves. On Steam, the game has reached its highest-ever concurrent player count, with over 120,000 people playing the game. This made The Witcher 3 the 9th most-played game on Steam.

Clearly, The Witcher 3 Remastered’s launch has been a success. Remember, these numbers only count gamers on Steam. This data does not include players on other PC platforms like GOG or the Epic Games Store. Nor does it include gamers on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2.

Before today, The Witcher 3’s highest concurrent player count peak was in 2020. This was just after the release of season one of Netflix’s The Witcher series. Before that, the game’s peak player count was 92,268, which occurred when The Witcher 3 launched in 2015. Subsequent peaks also occurred with Season 2 of Netflix’s The Witcher series and the release of the game’s “next-gen” update.

The Witcher 3 Remastered is free for all owners of The Witcher 3. That means most of the game’s current players are likely returning players, not newcomers. That said, now is a great time for gamers to start playing The Witcher 3, especially now that we know that the game’s getting a new DLC next year. The Witcher 3’s Sings of the Past expansion is launching next year, and today’s “Remastered” update lays the groundwork for that new content.
