The Elder Scrolls: Sentinel has been unveiled
The Elder Scrolls VI is called “Sentinel”, and it isn’t launching anytime soon
It’s official: Bethesda has confirmed that their next Elder Scrolls game is called The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel. Sadly, the studio hasn’t unveiled much about the game, though we can guess a few things based on the teaser.
Based on the game’s sandy opening, it’s likely set in Hammerfell. The region has a city called Sentinel and large desert regions. Given the game’s name and sand-heavy teaser, a Hammerfell setting seems like an easy guess. Furthermore, the game’s teaser quote is from year 206 of the Fourth Age, just five years after the events of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
“The scroll offered only a shimmer, a veil thinly lifted to my eyes. A future lost. A victory undone. Sands of time scattered by fate.”
– Yazar, Moth Priest to High Queen Iradne of Hammerfell (4E 206)
Bethesda has officially stated that it will be “some time before we’re ready to share more”, and Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier says the game is “still more than two years away”. According to Schreier, Bethesda only unveiled The Elder Scrolls VI in 2018 (alongside Starfield) to soften the blow of Fallout 76’s release. This reveal confirmed that Bethesda wasn’t going multiplayer-only. Sentinel’s development began only after Starfield’s release.
Bethesda Game Studios hasn’t released a new The Elder Scrolls game in almost 15 years. To say the least, fans are hungry for more. The gap between The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was less than six years, and those years saw the release of Fallout 3 and multiple large DLC packs.
