ASUS PG279Q ROG Swift Monitor Review

Introduction

The ASUS ROG Swift range of monitors has delighted us in recent times, with a whole range of products from the super-wide, gorgeous and expensive PG378Q through 4K offerings and up to today’s review of the PG279Q.

As you might guess from the name this is a 27 inch monitor, which supports a 2560×1440 resolution. 4K is all well and good but you still require massive amounts of GPU horsepower to achieve a smooth frame rate in modern titles, but 1080P isn’t really making the most of modern graphics cards either. 1440 is definitely the resolution that provides the best balance between smooth frame rates and a GPU setup that doesn’t break the bank.

As part of the ROG Swift range the PG279Q supports up to 165Hz refresh rate, should you demand insanely high response times or be playing Sniper Elite 3, whilst also containing the nVidia GSYNC technology meaning that you’re freed from the need to break through the 60 FPS barrier just to achieve a lack of screen-tearing.

Wrapping up the box-ticking specifications is the all-important IPS panel, giving greater colour reproduction and a generally higher quality than TN panels, and a design befitting of the Republic of Gamers label.
