AMD counters Intel’s 8086K sweepstakes countered by Threadripper “trade” offer
During this announcement, Intel confirmed that they would be holding a sweepstakes event, where 8,086 i7-8086K processors would be given to Intel users worldwide. This sweepstake started on June 7th and ended 24 hours later. Intel is set to inform the winners of this sweepstakes within the next few days. Â
To counter this event, AMD are reminding the world that while Intel has been a major innovator in the x86 CPU marker for the past 40 years, AMD is now willing to take up the reigns of technological innovation, offering 40 US winners of Intel’s Sweepstake the chance to trade in their i7-8086K in for a Threadripper 1950X, the world’s first consumer-grade 16-core processor. Â
AMD is going all out to steal Intel’s thunder, reminding the world that they are back in the game and have shaken up the industry in ways that we have not seen for over a decade. Perhaps this is a round-about way to get a few i7-8086K CPUs into AMD’s hands, though it is undeniable that this is a ballsy move from the CPU maker. Â
Our competitor recently kicked off a sweepstakes to celebrate the first 40 years of the x86 processor by giving away 8,086 limited edition processors.
We appreciate the advancements theyâve helped drive with the x86 architecture over the last four decades. But, weâre ready to take it from here. Thatâs why weâre giving 40 performance-hungry enthusiasts in the U.S. an opportunity to celebrate the next 40 years of high-performance computing by trading in their commemorative processor prize for our CPU that enables you to work, play and create with heavy metal.
The first 40 U.S.-based winners of the Intel® 8th Gen Core i7-8086k Limited Edition Sweepstakes (which opened on June 7, 2018 and closed on June 8, 2018) (âCompetitor Sweepstakesâ) to complete certain steps will be offered the opportunity to exchange their new, in-box prize processor for a flagship 16-core AMD Ryzen⢠Threadripper⢠1950X processor built for the gamers and creators who need a processor that can do it all. Those steps will be communicated on this webpage on June 25 at 1:00:00 PM EDT. Check back on June 25 at 1:00:00 PM EDT for complete details on how to participate.
OPEN ONLY TO RESIDENTS OF 50 U.S./D.C. VOID OUTSIDE THE U.S. AND WHERE PROHIBITED.

There are more than a few reasons why winners of the Intel competition would want to take up AMD on their offer, as AMD’s processor offers users a total of 16 cores and 32 threads, 10 cores more than Intel’s i7-8086K. AMD’s processor also provides users more PCIe lanes for device connectivity, making AMD’s Threadripper processor ideal for a powerful workstation.
