AMD reveals their 2nd Gen Ryzen PRO and new Athlon PRO processors
These processors share the same basic specifications as their standard Ryzen and Athlon counterparts, aside from one key area, security. Ryzen PRO and Athlon PRO silicon offer support for AMD’s GuardMI technology, supporting Windows 10’s Enterprise Security, delivers built-in AES 128-bit encryption and supports the fTPM/TPM 2.0 feature set. Â
AMD’s security capabilities enable enterprise users to offer high-end security features while maintaining a low system costs, with Intel’s competing vPro features being limited to higher-end SKUs. AMD provides this feature on even their lowly dual-core Athlon PRO 200GE.Â
AMD’s Ryzen PRO and Athlon PRO processors also ship with a 36-month limited warranty, which is three times longer than consumer products and will have at least 24 months of availability after launch. This ensures that enterprise customers can have a steady supply of these processors for quite some time after launch.Â

AMD’s Ryzen PRO and Athlon PRO processors offer the same specifications as their consumer-grade counterparts, providing the same base/boost clock speeds and general naming scheme. This makes AMD’s new Ryzen Pro lineup extremely easy to understand, especially if you are familiar with existing Ryzen 2nd Generation products. Â

When compared to Intel’s desktop offers, AMD expects Ryzen Pro customers to achieve higher levels of multi-threaded performance while maintaining similar pricing. This will be useful for users who frequently edit/encode videos or regularly use CPU-heavy 3D rendering techniques.Â
AMD has also assured us that their Ryzen/Athlon PRO systems require the same number of steps and a similar amount of time to deploy as an equivalent Intel-based system, making Ryzen/Athlon PRO systems just as easy to work with as their competitors.Â
When compared to the company’s existing Ryzen (1st Gen) PRO processors, AMD expects their Ryzen 2nd Generation PRO processors to offer between a 10 and 16% performance boost, thanks to AMD’s use of 12nm manufacturing technologies and Ryzen 2nd Generation’s suite architectural enhancements.Â
