AMD reveals their low power Ryzen 3 2200GE and Ryzen 5 2400GE APUs

AMD has unveiled two new Ryzen/Raven Ridge APU designs on their website, offering a lower TDP than their existing Ryzen 3 2200G and Ryzen 5 2400G products. Both of AMD’s existing APU designs have a TDP of 65W, while these new models offer a 35W TDP, promising lower levels of heat output and power consumption.

These new models will be called the Ryzen GE series, with the G standing for it use of a dedicated Vega Graphics chip while the E signifies it low power design. At this time both of these APUs have no price listings or availability information, making it unclear whether or not these parts will ever make it onto retail shelves.

These two GE versions of the Ryzen 3 2200G and Ryzen 5 2400G offer lower CPU clock speeds than their standard G counterparts, tuned for lower power consumption levels with the same maximum iGPU clock speeds at stock. It is likely that these iGPUs will downclock more often than their high-end counterparts due to AMD’s low-power design.

AMD’s website has listed both the Ryzen 3 2200G and Ryzen 5 2400G with no included stock cooler, making them the only Ryzen 2000 series processors to lack a reference Wraith cooler design. This lack of a stock cooler means that AMD either plans to release these coolers with a lower price tag than existing Raven Ridge APUs or that these APUs are designed exclusively for OEM use.
