AMD’s Notebook Market share is at an all-time high of almost 20%

AMD’s Ryzen 4000 series of notebook processors were game-changers for the company’s laptop market share, more than doubling the company’s notebook sales during the past quarter.

According to Mercury Research, AMD’s notebook market share now sits at 19.9%, highlighting the company’s newfound strength within the mobile CPU market.

Right now, the x86 market is a two-horse race, and these market share gains from AMD have come at the expense of Intel. That said, Intel has an opportunity to recapture some of this market with Tiger Lake, a new CPU design which boasts powerful integrated graphics and leading single-threaded CPU performance.  

In the desktop x86 market, AMD reportedly has a market share of 19.2%, with an overall x86 market share of 18.3%. In the client market, AMD has not seen market share values since Q1 2012, currently boasting a market share of 19.7% in the client (excluding IoT) segment. 

Recent reports have claimed that AMD’s gains in the notebook market are limited by the production rate of AMD’s Ryzen 4000 series processors. AMD may not have enough fab space at TSMC to meet the market’s current demand for Ryzen 4000 series processors, a factor which may prevent AMD from gaining much more ground from Intel.
