AMD’s Wraith Max RGB cooler will soon be sold as a standalone product
Â
When AMD released their Ryzen series of CPUs, AMD’s Wraith Max RGB cooler was a big deal, so much so that many PC builders wanted to see it bundled with more of AMD Ryzen lineup or available as a standalone cooler.Â
Â
At the time of writing, AMD’s Wraith Max Cooler is only available with certain AMD’s Ryzen 7 1700X and 1800X CPUs, with the addition of the cooler comes with a price premium. Given the cooler’s inability to handle highly overclocked Ryzen 7 CPUs, many simply opted for other coolers, though that didn’t stop those with cooler and less power hungry Ryzen 5 and now Ryzen 3 CPUs from wanting AMD’s custom cooler design.Â
Â
AMD has announced that they will be releasing their Wraith Max RGB cooler as a standalone product, a cooler that is compatible with AM4, AM3 and FM2 motherboards and should be more than adequate to overclock some of AMD’s lower-end Ryzen CPUs.Â
This RGB cooler can be controlled using ASUS Aura, Gigabyte RGB Fusion, MSI Mystic Light and AsRock RGB LED lighting tools, with AMD shipping the cooler with a USB header to allow non-RGB motherboard users to control this with AMD’s own lighting control software.Â
Â
The only problem here is that this cooler will be listed with a price tag of $59, at least according to Tom’s Hardware, making the cooler seem rather expensive for what was a stock CPU cooling solution. We certainly would have preferred to see something a little cheaper here, though at this time we do not know if AMD expects to sell these coolers in any meaningful volumes.
