AMD reveals their Athlon 200GE APU with Vega 3 graphics

AMD’s Athlon 200GE is now available in the UK

Earlier this month, AMD officially revealed their new Athlon 200GE processor, bringing the company’s Zen core design to the low-end PC market, challenging Intel Celeron and Pentium series processors.

With this release, AMD’s Zen architecture has been brought to all areas of the CPU market, spanning from low-cost Dual-core processors all the way to monstrous 32-core workstation offerings.

Now, AMD’s Athlon 200GE is available in the UK, with pricing between £50 and £55, depending on your chosen retailer. Retail listings also confirm that these low-cost CPUs will ship with an “Active Fan Air Cooler”, something which is not listed on AMD’s website.

While dual-core processors are not enough for modern gaming applications, the Athlon 200GE is ideal for use with simple desktop PCs, which can be used for word processing, internet browsing or as the core of a small file server or media PC. The combination of AMD’s Zen architecture and Vega graphics will offer users more than enough performance to power through most generic workloads, giving this new Athlon a mass-market appeal that the company’s high core count offering lack.

With Intel’s 14nm shortage ongoing, the cost of Intel processors is creeping up, making now the perfect time for AMD to introduce a low-cost competitor for the Pentium series, with Scan UK’s current pricing of £50 being incredibly attractive for low-end computing.

AMD plans to release higher-end Athlon series CPUs later this year. At this time the specifications of AMD’s higher-end Athlon SKUs remain unknown.
