ASUS launches their WS X299 SAGE 10G motherboard with dual 10Gb Nics

ASUS’ WS series X299 SAGE is back and beefier than ever, offering end users larger VRM heatsinks, faster internet connectivity and the same insane PCIe connectivity options as the original.   

As the name suggests, the WS (Workstation) X299 SAGE 10G’s main upgrade is the inclusion of two 10Gb Ethernet connections, both of which use Intel’s X550-AT2 controller to offer high-end performance and reliability. 

The ASUS X299 SAGE is a motherboard that is designed to offer extreme levels of GPU/expansion-slot density, providing support for a maximum of seven full-sized PCIe 16x add-in cards, which will be extremely useful for those that what to train neural networks with a large bank of GPUs or crunch other highly scalable compute workloads. 

This motherboard will come with support for ASUS Control Center (ACC), which will allow users on the same network band to monitor the system and schedule tasks and utilise remote desktop features. 

When looking at ASUS’ X299 SAGE 10G, it comes with the most two M.2 slots and a single U.2 connection, though all of these ports are only usable with 44-lane Intel X299 processors. Below is a list of possible PCIe configurations on this motherboard.

On top of the addition of two 10Gb Ethernet NICs, ASUS has also expanded the VRM heatsink of this motherboard to include a full aluminium fin stack beside the rear I/O, offering users a lot more cooling capability while maintaining the same power setup. This change will help ASUS maintain lower VRM temperatures under high CPU loads.
