Gigabyte Documents Reveal Four TRX40 Motherboards for Next-Gen Threadripper!

AMD has already confirmed that new Ryzen Threadripper processors are coming, but so far they have revealed shockingly little about the platform that they’ll use to power it.

For months now there have been rumours of a new TRX40 motherboard platform, which will ship with PCIe 4.0 support and support for 3rd Generation Ryzen Threadripper processors, but at this time AMD has not given so much as a hint of the platform’s existence.

Thankfully, Gigabyte can’t keep a secret, having revealed four TRX40 series motherboards in the QVL list of their Aorus Gen4 AIC adaptor card. These motherboards include Gigabyte’s TRX40 AORUS XTREME TRX40, AORUS MASTER TRX40, AORUS PRO WIFI, and TRX40 Designare. This information was first uncovered by @momomo_us on Twitter.

Recent rumours have also speculated that AMD’s Ryzen 3rd Generation Threadripper processors will not be supported on older X399 series motherboards, with official support only coming on newer TRX40 series motherboards. The inverse is also said to apply, with TRX40 series motherboards lacking support for first and second-generation Threadripper processors.

Gigabyte’s documentation (Links 1,2) act as confirmation that TRX40 will be the name of AMD’s upcoming Threadripper motherboard platform. Hopefully, we will find out more about TRX40 in the coming weeks.
