Intel launches its limited-edition i9-9900KS processor

The past few years have seen competition become much tighter within the CPU market, especially with the release of AMD’s Zen 2 series processors. While AMD has been making steady progress, Intel can still claim superiority in one important market, PC gaming, where their Coffee Lake series processors can still reign supreme.

That said, the emergence of Zen 2 has made competition tighter than ever before, creating the need for Intel to reassert its position as the master of desktop gaming with the release of their limited-edition i9-9900KS processor.

So what is the i9-9900KS? Simply put it is a highly binned i9-9900K that offers 5.0GHz all-core Turbo clock speeds. This is the cream of the crop when it comes to Intel’s 8-core Coffee Lake processors, promising incredible out of the box performance and the potential to boost performance further through overclocking. Overclocking this CPU can be done manually or using Intel’s Performance Maximiser tool.

The i9-9900KS will ship in limited quantities to retailers, offer users a TDP of 127W, be supported on today’s Z390 motherboards and release with a year-long warranty.

Intel will release this product with a recommended customer price of $513. At this time no UK pricing has been revealed, though the CPU will become available on October 30th. This CPCU will be available worldwide, though it will only be available for a limited time.

While it is great to see Intel releasing faster processors, the “Limited Edition” nature of this product inspires little confidence. Hopefully retail stock will be high enough to meet the demands of consumers, lest this CPU be seen as little more than a PR release.
