MSI’s latest AMD 500 series BIOS’ deliver enhanced Zen 3 performance and Smart Access Memory on the Ryzen 3000 series
These new motherboards updates include AMD’s AGESA COMBO PI V2 1.2.0.1 BIOS code, offering support for Smart Access Memory support with Zen 2-based Ryzen 3000 series processors and improved L3 cache bandwidth on Ryzen 5000 series processors.Â
Smart Access Memory
Â
AMD’s Smart Access Memory feature allows AMD Ryzen 5000 and 3000 series processors to access the full frame buffers of compatible graphics cards, braking past the 256MB limitation imposed by ageing PC standards. With Smart Access Memory, AMD uses the PCIe Resizable BAR feature to give users of compatible graphics cards and processors increased GPU memory access, enabling significant boosts to gaming performance within many popular titles.Â
With AMD’s AGESA COMBO PI V2 1.2.0.1 BIOS code, Ryzen 3000 series processors (except for the Zen+ based 3400G and 3200G) now support Smart Access Memory alongside their newer Ryzen 5000 series counterparts. This allows a broader number of 500 series motherboard users to take advantage of the feature.Â

Improved L3 Cache Performance
With AMD’s latest AGESA code, Ryzen 5000 series CPU users should experience stronger L3 cache performance, with the largest performance differences being visible in AIDA 64. At this time, we do not know how this change impacts other workloads, such as gaming or productivity-focused tasks.Â
Right now, MSI’s AGESA COMBO PI V2 1.2.0.1 are now available online for all of their Ryzen 500 series motherboards. A full list of compatible motherboards is available at the base of this article.Â
