AMD's Press Conference will be the keynote to watch at CES 2020 - Here's Why

2019 was a big year for AMD, and 2020 is due to be even better. At CES 2020, AMD plans to start 2020 with a show of strength, promising to “push the envelope yet again” in the world of high-performance computing.

If you want to see everything live, AMD plans to livestream its CES 2020 Press Conference (which we have embedded below) at 2 PM PST. This translates to 10 PM GMT for our local UK-based readers.

What do we expect?

In late 2019, AMD confirmed that it was working on a 64-core Ryzen Threadripper 3990X processor, and we expect to see a lot more of this processor at CES 2020, starting the year with a show of force that Intel cannot hope to match with its current product stack.

Another thing that we expect is to see Zen 2 appear in more places, with AMD’s rumoured reveal of Ryzen 4th Generation Mobile processors bringing Zen 2 and 7nm to the notebook market, delivering users boosted performance and heightened levels of power efficiency. With Intel’s 10nm struggles and processor shortages, it’s hard to see Zen 2’s mobile CPUs as anything less than transformative for AMD’s notebook prospects.

What else could AMD talk about?

AMD has a lot of new products in the pipeline for 2020, including the release of Zen 3, which is expected in the second half of this year, and the reveal of new graphics cards like AMD’s long-rumoured RX 5600 XT.

CES 2020 also acts as an excellent opportunity for AMD to reveal more of its product roadmap, including the release of some Zen 3 or RDNA 2 architectural details. AMD could also ask Sony or Microsoft representatives to take the stage to discuss their AMD-powered next-generation consoles.
