AMD explains the reason behind its March RDNA 4 launch plans
Launching RDNA 4 in March gives AMD “extra time to optimise” and “enable more FSR 4 titles”
Earlier this week, AMD confirmed that they planned to launch their RX 9070 series of RDNA 4 graphics cards in March. Now, AMD’s David McAfee has posted on X again to explain why.
By launching in March, AMD will be able to release its RDNA 4 graphics architecture alongside more FSR 4-enabled games. Furthermore, AMD will use this time to optimise their software to enable maximum GPU performance. Additionally, this time will also allow AMD’s partners to ship more graphics cards to retailers in time for launch.
These plans will allow AMD’s upcoming RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 GPUs to deliver more performance at launch. Furthermore, these plans will result in greater retail availability than an earlier RDNA 4 launch and greater day-1 support for AMD’s new FSR 4 AI upscaling solution.
I really appreciate the excitement for RDNA4. We are focused on ensuring we deliver a great set of products with Radeon 9000 series. We are taking a little extra time to optimize the software stack for maximum performance and enable more FSR 4 titles. We also have a wide range…

Overall, these plans will result in a better RDNA 4 launch for AMD. Hopefully, this means that AMD’s latest GPUs will be free of launch-day software issues.
AMD has confirmed they will have a dedicated launch event for their RDNA 4 series GPUs. This will give AMD the opportunity to dive deep into their RDNA 4 graphics architecture and its feature set. This is when AMD will also reveal the specifications and performance levels of their RX 9070 XT and RX 9070.
