AMD is close to fixing their “DX9 bug” – root cause found
Over the past week, AMD has revieced a lot of flack regarding their recently released Radeon Software Adrenalin driver. This uproar came after it was discovered that the driver introduced a bug that prevented several popular DirectX 9 games from functioning, a list that includes The Witcher: Enhanced Edition, Battle for Middle Earth 1+2, Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars and Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3.
In our testing, we found that affected games worked on drivers as new as Radeon Software Crimson ReLive 17.11.4, with each title failing to boot when used with AMD’s Radeon Software Adrenalin 17.12.1 or 17.12.2 drivers.
AMD’s Director of AMD Software Strategy, Terry Makedon, has given Radeon users an update on Twitter, stating that the cause of the “DX9 Bug” has been found and that the company’s driver team are currently working on a “proper fix”. Long story short, we should expect a driver hotfix in the near future.
