AMD reportedly plans 16GB RX 9070 GRE GPU with September/October launch plans
AMD is reportedly planning to give its Radeon RX 9070 GRE a 16GB memory upgrade
As of now, the Radeon RX 9070 GRE graphics card is only available in China. This model features a 12GB frame buffer, and rumour has it that AMD plans to launch a new, upgraded 16GB version. This upgrade makes this GPU a stronger option in today’s GPU market, allowing it to slot more neatly between AMD’s 16GB RX 9060 XT and 16GB RX 9070.
In today’s GPU market, 16GB graphics cards are overwhelmingly popular, at least in the DIY PC market. In Mindfactory, 16GB graphics cards account for almost 80% of new GPU sales. This popularity is the likely reason behind AMD’s rumoured RX 9070 GRE upgrade.
Channel news source Bobantang announced today that AMD is planning an upgraded version of the Radeon RX 9070 GRE, which may upgrade the video memory capacity to 16GB to meet market demand. The official launch time of the new model will be around September or October this year.

Unfortunately, it is unclear whether the new RX 9070 GRE model will be released in Western markets. The current version of AMD’s Radeon RX 9070 GRE is only available in China. If this GPU model were released in the West, it would fill the large performance and pricing gap between AMD’s Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB and RTX 9070. This would give Nvidia’s RTX 5070 a strong competitor from AMD that features more VRAM. Furthermore, it could make many of Nvidia’s 16GB RTX 5060 Ti models seem very overpriced.
Overall, releasing this GPU model would be a good move from AMD. It’s a strong counter to Nvidia, and a welcome upgrade over the RX 9070 GRE’s current 12GB version.
