AMD rubbishes $899 Radeon RX 9070 XT pricing rumours

AMD’s Radeon RX 9070 XT will cost less than $899 – Frank Azor confirms

Earlier this week, a report from WccfTech claimed that AMD was considering $899 and $749 pricing levels for their Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 GPUs. In response to this article, AMD’s Frank Azor, their Chief Architect of Gaming Solutions and Gaming Marketing, said that these pricing levels were “never part of the plan.” In other words, AMD rubbished these rumours.

AMD plans to launch their new RDNA 4 GPUs in March. Based on leaked specifications, AMD’s Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 will feature more compute units (CUs) than AMD’s Radeon RX 7800 XT and RX 7700 XT, respectively, and fewer compute units than AMD’s RX 7900 XT/XTX series GPUs. This places these new graphics cards in the mid-range section of the GPU market, at least at a hardware level. However, it is worth noting that RDNA 4 features many architectural advantages over RDNA 3.

During their CES Preview for RDNA 4, AMD confirmed that its new GPU architecture features many improvements over RDNA 3. For starts, AMD claims to have “optimised compute units” and “improved ray tracing per CU”. Additionally, AMD claims to have “supercharged” its AI performance. In short, AMD will be squeezing a lot more performance out of each GPU compute unit. That’s great news for gamers, as AMD has made their GPUs more performant and efficient. AMD didn’t just make their GPUs bigger to boost their performance.
