AMD unveils March launch for their Radeon RX 9070 series GPUs

AMD’s launching their Radeon 9000 series GPUs in March, much later than expected

At CES 2025, AMD Previewed their Radeon RX 9000 series of RDNA 4 GPUs. Following this reveal, many of AMD’s partners revealed new RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT graphics cards, suggesting that a retail launch is imminent. Today, David McAfee, VP & GM of Ryzen CPU and Radeon graphics at AMD, has confirmed that their RX 9070 series GPUs will launch in March.

This announcement has left many gamers disappointed, as many expected AMD’s GPUs to launch at an earlier date. Many gamers expected a launch in late January or early February, making AMD’s March release date disappointing.

It is unknown why AMD has chosen a March release date for its Radeon RX 9070 series. Nvidia has confirmed that its RTX 5070 series will be released in February. Are AMD waiting to see how Nvidia’s product performs before launching a counter-attack? If not, is AMD still working on optimising their driver for RDNA 4, or putting their finishing touches on FSR 4?

AMD has confirmed they will have a dedicated launch event for their RDNA 4 series GPUs. This will give AMD the opportunity to dive deep into their RDNA 4 graphics architecture and its feature set. This is when AMD will also reveal the specifications and performance levels of their RX 9070 XT and RX 9070.
