AMD Gains GPU Market Share

AMD has gained GPU Market Share last quarter

AMD has gained GPU Market share in the last quarter, though Nvidia still remains dominant with over 75% market share. While overall demand for AIB (Add-in boards)/ Discrete GPUs has decreased 2015 saw a large increase in sales for enthusiast level products, with total sales increasing from around 2.9 million in 2014 to around 5.9 million in 2015.

This shows that there is increased demand for high end gaming GPUs, which is likely due to the recent move towards more advanced graphical APIs and the increase in graphical fidelity and PC system requirements due to the release of the PS4 and Xbox One. What we can also see here is that consumers are very willing to pay for high end GPU products in the current games market.

When compared to the same quarter last year AMD’s market share has decreased by 2.9%, but when compared to last quarter we can see that AMD’s market share has increased by 1.3%. AMD hope that their work with the new DirectX 12 API and their use of Asynchronous Compute will help them to continue to increase their market share in the coming months, especially with their New Polaris Architecture GPUs on the horizon.
