AMD has released a list of VR-Ready CPUs

Right now AMD does not have the best single core CPU performance on the market, but even now AMD still can offer a great deal of performance for the price.

When it comes to the VR the required PC specifications are very high, with Oculus themselves recommending a Intel i5 4590 CPU or greater to use the headset.

AMD has now released a list of suggested CPUs for building a VR-ready PC, which includes 9 CPUs from both AMD’s AM3+ and FM2+ sockets, tow of which have not been released to the public yet.

Looking at this list we can see that AMD only recommends CPUs that us AMD’s Piledriver architecture or Newer and has clock speeds of over 3.9GHz base, meaning that users of AMD CPUs with lower clock speeds will need to either overclock their system past 3.9GHz or upgrade their systems to a higher end CPU.

Most interestingly AMD has listed several Quad core CPUs and APUs from AMD’s FM2+ platform, which are CPUs that are typically compared to Intel i3 CPUs and not i5s, making this listing very interesting. AMD has clarified that they have only conducted testing on the AM3+ CPUs on this list and will provide an updated list when they have tested the FM2+ series chips.

AMD has stated that this list of CPUs have been verified by AMD after internal testing (at least the AM3+ CPUs), though these CPUs have not been verified or endorsed by Oculus themselves, though AMD does say that their CPU will deliver a strong VR experience, especially after DX12 comes into play.

When it comes to VR gaming your GPU performance is the key to having a good experience, though only time will tell if these AMD CPUS have what it takes to run VR games well.
