AMD releases a new GPU driver to enhance mining performance stability

 

Whether you love mining or hate mining, it is undeniably a part of the modern GPU market, giving PC users a way to utilise their graphics cards compute performance outside of gaming and other traditional compute workloads. 

AMD has traditionally been one of the best performers in these mining workloads, with avid miners crying out to AMD for a new mining-centric GPU driver which optimises the GPU for blockchain compute workloads. 

 

The Radeon Technologies Group has now released a new Radeon Software Beta driver for Blockchain Compute, a driver that is not intended for gaming workloads but provides additional stability and performance in Blockchain Compute workloads. 

 

Seeing some initial testing from Legit Reviews, we can see increased hashrate performance for large DAG sizes with this new driver as well as increased overall performance on AMD’s RX Vega. It has been noted that power draw is increased at these larger DAG sizes, but the increase in mining performance was more than worth the additional power draw.

This is simply a beta driver, so further performance improvements and optimisations are possible moving forward.
