AMD’s Polaris 12 GPU is rumoured to have 640 Stream processors
A new GPU has shown up in the OpenCL manifest, coming with 10 compute units with 64 cores each for a total of 640 stream processors. This new GPU is likely to be the RX 550, coming with AMD’s GFX8 (Polaris) architecture and a price point that is under £100.
At this time there is not enough information on this new GPU to even guess at performance, though this GPU is listed with 4GB of VRAM and a potential boost clock speed of 1300MHz, which isn’t bad for what looks like a mobile friendly, low-power GPU.
It looks like Polaris 12 is a new Entry level GPU from AMD, designed to be able to handle light gaming and multiple high-resolution displays for productivity.
If this data is correct it means that Polaris 12 isn’t anything that gamers should get excited about, unless of course you just want a cheap GPU to play League of Legends and other easy to run free-to-play titles.
