ASRock releases the world’s first passive Radeon RX 7900 series GPUs

ASRock launches their Radeon RX 7900 Passive series GPUs for parallel computing workloads

ASRock has today launched the world’s first passively cooled Radeon RX 7900 series graphics cards. These new GPUs are part of ASRock’s new Passive series, with Radeon RX 7900 XT and XTX models.

These graphics cards are intended for multi-GPU/parallel computing setups. Both models feature a a custom vapour chamber heatsink and feature 12V-2×6 power connectors. Note that these GPUs are not intended for gaming PCs, they are intended for servers and other high-performance systems that have high levels of internal airflow.

For the most part, these GPUs appear to be identical to ASRock’s RX 7900 WS series of graphics cards. With the Passive series, ASRock appears to have simply removed the fan and fan shroud of these graphics cards. These GPUs are two PCIe slots wide, allowing many of these GPUs to be fitted inside a single system. Output-wise, these GPUs feature three DisplayPort 2.1 outputs and a single HDMI 2.1 output.

Obviously, the ASRock RX 7900 Passive series was not created for fully passive PCs. It needs to be installed inside a PC case that has a lot of airflow that is directed through this graphics card. As such, this graphics card is ideally used inside servers and PC cases that have an airflow pattern that is well catered to this style of “passive” graphics card.
