ASUS officially reveals AMD-exclusive AREZ sub-brand – releases in May

ASUS has officially unveiled their new AREZ series of GPUs, named after Ares, the Greek God of War. This new GPU sub-brand will be exclusive to AMD GPUs, differentiating Radeon hardware from their Nvidia counterparts.

Functionally these graphics cards will be identical to their previously released non-AREZ counterparts, utilising ASUS’ innovative 100% automated production techniques, Direct Contact cooling technology and the same level of support for ASUS’ GPU Tweak II, FanConnect II and AURA technologies. All that has changed here is the branding of ASUS’ Radeon hardware, which amounts to changes in hardware boxes, stickers, model numbers and backplate designs on select components.

ASUS expects there now products to roll out in May “in selected countries”, with pricing that will vary depending on your retailer. Below are examples of ASUS AREZ Strix, Expedition and Dual series graphics cards.

Looking at the specifications of each AREZ GPU, it looks like there have been no clock speed changes when compared to ASUS’ original non-AREZ equivalents, so users shouldn’t expect any performance increases or decreases when moving into the AREZ era.

ASUS’ press release on the topic did not mention Nvidia’s Geforce Partner Program, though it is clear that AREZ is an AMD-exclusive brand name, calling back to ASUS’ old ARES series of ultra-high-end Radeon hardware.

It is likely that other Add-in-Board (AIB) partners will make similar announcements in the coming days or weeks, assuming that this branding change has come as a result of Nvidia’s Geforce partners Program.
